First Nations Support

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Ama Sah (Good Day),

We are excited to begin another school year.  Suwilaawks Community School truly is a great place to be and we thank you for giving us the opportunity to work and learn with your children during the 2018/2019 school year.

The First Nations programs at Suwilaawks enrich educational opportunities for all students.  Targeted funds from the Ministry of Education provide extra and additional programs and services for students of aboriginal descent.  Specifically, these funds are to support initiatives in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy and Social Responsibility.  The focus of our programs are to enhance students understanding of their heritage and promote a sense of belonging; as well as encouraging and empowering each child to meet with success in school and in life.

Suwilaawks provides the following opportunities for your child:

  • Classroom/Academic Support
  • Homework support
  • Cultural Clubs and Academies
  • Support with the integration of First Nations culture into the curriculum
  • Outside connections, field trip support, social emotional supports
  • Supporting parents with school connections

We have had the chance to touch base with many of you and we look forward to reaching out to personally touch base with everyone. This letter is to confirm your child is still in this category and will continue to receive supports provided by our First Nations Support Worker. Throughout the day, we weave many supports into the classroom as well as during our lunch breaks. If you do not wish to have your child receive these additional supports and services, please contact us at the school. Feel free to drop by anytime to discuss any of our programs and thank you (T’oyaxsut ‘nüün) for sharing your children with us.

Warmest regards,

The Suwilaawks FNSW Team:
